Ooh, I've actually seen both of the films.
Watched I ♥ Huckabees a few weeks ago. Wow, what an...interesting film. :)
HA! You're prepped! I look forward to hearing if you agree or disagree with the majority of the group!
The score to I Heart Huckabees is the main reason i love it, the music is just so wonderful, jon brion is a genius. And I can't believe you guys didn't like the visuals!! come on. I thought the faces splitting up was cool. The only bad visual was jude law breast feeding, that was very disturbing. I think i'm going to suggest 2 more movies, how bout RoboCop and... once again... Mulholland Dr.
Im with Kurt on this one, Huckabees is an great film but is essentially a experimental film, chock full of existential thought.
I also loved the visual style and as far as the the effects are concerned I did find it charming in it's slapdash delivery. I would say it's to be enjoyed momment to momment rather than as a cohesive whole. Blame it on the bellboy via Nietzsche, what else do you need. Really hoping you guys get to discuss The Ninth Configuration at some point, a very funny and dark commentary on faith. How about some Alejandro Jodorowsky maybe El Topo or Holy Mountain.
well Andrew is wrong that nobody's gonna defend I Heart Huckabees... I am with Kurt, its a 4/4 from me, and its one of the only movies I have a poster of hanging in my room. Everything works for me, and its all about the world that Russell creates. The characters and their actions are fine by me, because for one - I find them hilarious, and two - yes, the screwball element. Here is a world where the second most characters find a crisis they will turn their lives over to these various mindsets. It makes them hilarious, unpredicatable and the performances bring it to its full hilt for me. Love Huckabees. - Goon
Something tells me we should attempt to chew on Winterkills too. I'd rather do that than Southland Tales or Mullholland Dr. which have gotten a lot more talk.
Plus, with everyone from Jeff Bridges to Toshiro Mifune to John Huston to Elizabeth Taylor to Anthony Perkins in the film, it is an odd beast for a satire.
damn that sounds like an interesting little movie, i dont know how i havent heard of it before, will have to check it out.
that i heart huckabees review was some painful listening
@matt Because of the love or the hate...or the technical?
I'm not a huge movie buff so this might explain my confusion, but I remember when I first saw the preview for 'I Heart Huckabees' I thought it was a Wes Anderson flick. I don't know if it was the style, (the 70's-ish clothes and hair), the pretentiousness or the fact that Jason Schwartzman was in it?
RE I Heart Huckabees: There's a difference between "doesn't make sense" and "doesn't make sense to me." Sometimes you have to not externalize the blame for a movie being confusing. One of the best things I did in terms of watching movies/reading books/etc. was to recognize my own limitations for making sense of art. That's what sparks curiosity to actually understand it and not just deflate with "there's no point....it's nonsense."
what I like the most of I ♥ Huckabees is that it represents situations we encounter every day. It is funny and realistic at the same time
