Make no mistake, Fucking Amal is a still a movie, not aiming for documentary or full verite real-ness. However, it captures the teen experience (whatever that means) better than most films. The situations and overall vibe of the film aren't exaggerated at all, that is one of the great things about the film. But it's got a lot of emotion, joy, confusion, and otherwise 'feeling' which is what cinema does best.

Good pairing of these two movies. I've always liked both of them (I taped "Fucking Amal" years ago off cable, where it was called "Show Me Love") and they both are very strong in portraying the relationships between the girls. Funny that "Fucking Amal" is the sweeter movie, while "Heavenly Creatures" is the murderous one. "Heavenly Creatures" — even when it first came out on video — always struck me as reminiscent of Hitchcock, without being a ripoff of his work in any way.
